Friends of G&AHC – 2014 Talks & Events

Friends of G&AHC was formally constituted during 2014, and the committee quickly got down to the task of organising a programme of talks and social events.   This has resulted in raising almost £400 towards the  running of the Heritage Centre.

Fun items included a quiz on the local area and the brightly-coloured loom bands made by our enterprising secretary Hazel Young has been very popular with our young visitors.

Talks  included:  David Gillies – Cartographer & Historian. David spent many years working in the UK, Africa and Australia drawing maps from aerial and satellite photographs.  His talk and impressive power-point presentation identified old dwellings and industrial sites of the 1800′s in the local area, to see what was still visible today and what has changed over the years.
Wemyss Bricks by Gary Nurse, Friend of Methil & Area Heritage Centre.
The Black Watch during WWI by Richard McKenzie, archivist of the Black Watch Castle & Museum in Perth.
Andrew Dowsey, Curator, Fife Council Archive in Markinch .
Tribal Storm Dance Troupe - a wonderful display and talk on the history of dance from the Eastern provinces.
Glenrothes Floral Art Club - Christmas Displays

Photographs taken at all the above will be posted as soon as possible.
